PRINT® 05 & CONVERTINGSM 05 SHOWS
TRUE GLOBAL DIMENSIONS
The recently concluded PRINT® 05 & CONVERTINGSM 05 was one of the most successful show to date in drawing international attendees and exhibitors and creating a truly global industry marketplace, especially in light of the global political and economic climate.
PRINT 05 & CONVERTING 05 took place September 9-15 at the McCormick Place Complex in Chicago.
International attendees exceeded 7,200, or 11 percent of the total of 62,000. This was up from 7,100 at the last PRINT® show in 2001. These attendees represented 99 nations, up from 75 in 2001.
About 954 exhibitors mounted displays, filling nearly 750,000 net square feet of booth space.
Attendees from abroad included more than 20 formal delegations, and among these were the first official delegations ever from Vietnam and Ghana. Other delegations represented China, India, Russia, and numerous other European and Latin American nations.
PRINT 05 & CONVERTING 05 served this international audience with an on-site International Business Center as well as a series of region-specific business conferences. The first of these, on opening day, featured presentation of more than 20 Presidential PRINT Awards to leaders of international associations who have been particularly active in promotion of trade with the U.S.
GASC President Kathryn Marx gave a presentation at this ceremony highlighting "Creating the International Future of Print Through Innovation and Technology, and the Critical Role of Printing Industry Trade Associations."
Subsequent daily international trade programs focused on Latin America, Canada, Asia/Pacific, Russia/Eurasia, and Middle East/Africa.
Each program included economic forecasts, country-specific information, and an opportunity for exhibitors and show visitors to meet and network.
In the exhibit halls, the international flavor was also pronounced. Among the highlights was the first U.S. show display ever by the Brazilian Manufacturers Association, ABIMAQ/CSMEG. In addition, the show featured exhibits by:
CONLATINGRAF, the Latin American Confederation of the Graphic Industry-representing 15 national industry associations;
CIFAG, the Latin American Center for Graphic Industry Education and Development;
PANAGRAPH, The Pan-American Confederation for Suppliers to the Graphic Industry;
Argentine Printing Industry Association-FAIGA;

In the show's on-site newsroom, more than 150 journalists registered representing publications and news services outside the United States. This was 33 percent of the total news media attendance at the show.
The Graphic Arts Show Company promoted PRINT 05 & CONVERTING 05 worldwide through advertising, news releases, direct mail, participation in overseas trade events, and special cooperative promotion programs with foreign organizations and publications.
"We have always been very gratified by the international support our PRINT® shows have received," noted GASC President Regis J. Delmontagne. "In recent years we have made special efforts to reach out to these international audiences and expand the global elements of the show, and our results in 2005 demonstrate the enthusiastic acceptance our events have achieved."
The next PRINT show will take place in 2009. Next year, GASC will stage GRAPH EXPO® 2006 and CONVERTING EXPO® 2006 at McCormick Place on October 15-18. Complete information about what the PRINT 05 & CONVERTING 05 show offered is online at www.print05.com.
